The Bluegrass Association of North Dakota (B.A.N.D.) was formed to preserve and promote bluegrass music in North Dakota. At present the organization has about 100 members from all over the state.
What are Bluegrass Instruments?
Bluegrass instrments are fiddle, 6-string guitar, 5-string banjo, mandolin, upright acoustic bass (double bass), Dobro guitar, (played with steel) harmonica ,and autoharp. Bluegrass jamming is playing informally, usually sitting in a circle. In bluegrass jams, players and singers trade off, playing lead breaks and backup, singing lead parts and harmonies and enjoying a music that is greater than the sum of its parts. The main purpose of jamming is to learn how to play along on songs whether you know them or not.
North Dakota Bluegrass Jam Guide
All B.A.N.D.-sponsored Bluegrass jams are free of charge and open to the public and feature harmony singing along with the traditional bluegrass instruments, acoustic guitar, 5-string banjo, fiddle, mandolin, Dobro guitar, and acoustic upright bass. Listeners are always welcome, although the jams are not designed to be entertainment for spectators.
